Introducing the Key Cares Foundation

The official launch of the Key Cares Foundation took place at Key’s 33rd birthday function held at the Royal Hotel on 2nd September 2006.

Key has always strived to create and maximise long-term value for all its stakeholders. In addition to this, in line with long-term sustainability goals for Key and South Africa, Key wishes to invest directly in the upliftment of various communities on which it operates and impacts. In 2010 Dale Southern took up the reigns as chairperson.

Our Strategy

Each Director of Key is tasked with nominating a personal charity or beneficiary organisation of their choice. When choosing a nominated charity, the following dimensions were considered:

The charity or organisation had to be meaningful to the Director and his/ her team members, as well as being relevant to the community in which their particular business unit operated.

The charity or organisation had to comply with the BBBEE guidelines as set out in the Code of Good Practice for Corporate Social Responsibility and must support historically disadvantaged individuals or communities. It is important that these disadvantaged people would, through Key’s financial support, become active and meaningful contributors to the economy.

The CSR Committee

Key’s CSR committee is responsible for approving and monitoring all social responsibility activities within the company. The committee consist of the Executive Chairman, Group Financial Director, HR Director and Divisional Managing Directors, and meets quarterly or on an ad hoc basis when required.

The committee considers all recommendations and ensures that proper accounting and reporting procedures are adhered to once the funding has been approved.

Our Goals

A percentage of net operating profit after tax is set aside annually and split between the Management’s nominated beneficiaries. Since its inception the Key Foundation has contributed more than 6.1 million rands to various charitable organisations and in partnership with the General Motors Childlife Foundation has, over the last seven years, built 5 crèches and 1 school with at least three classrooms for each, adding an additional R5 million contributed by the above partnership, a total of R11.1 million has thus been invested into the community.
